Deasey Ponds Sanctuary – Mud Brook Sanctuary Deasey Ponds Sanctuary and Mud Brook Sanctuary consist of 4,918 acres in southern T3R7 WELS, Maine. The purpose of the sanctuaries is to protect a portion of the valley of the East Branch of the Penobscot River adjacent to the Wassataquoik Public Reserve Land, to provide sanctuary for its native plants and animals, and to ensure continued public access for compatible, low-impact recreational and educational use. The sanctuaries encompass:
Public access will remain unchanged through at least August 30, 2008. In particular the snowmobile trail route along ITS 85 will remain open. Hunting on the property will be permitted in accordance with the laws of the State of Maine.
